Rev. Arturo Feliciano Obituary

Arturo Feliciano Garcia was born on August 22, 1924 in Ceiba, Puerto Rico. The fifth of nine children born to Rosa Garcia and Juan Maria Feliciano, Arturo passed at age 96 on October 10, 2020 in New York City with his wife, Sonia, by his side.
Raised on his family's farm in rural Puerto Rico, Arturo answered the call of his country at age 18, joining the United States Army and serving his country both at home and abroad as a radar crewman during the Second World War. For his service, Arturo was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, and the WWII Victory Medal before being honorably discharged in 1946.
Nearly a decade after the war's end a new chapter of Arturo's life began when he met Sonia Torres in the city they would come to call home for the better part of their 64 years together. Through their union, Arturo and Sonia raised their two daughters with love, and with the church.
The Feliciano family were active congregants, with Sonia and the daughters supporting Arturo, who during the 1960s and 70s served as a minister and pastor for churches in the South Bronx and Lower Manhattan. Through his work, Arturo became a leader in his community and indeed a "father" to many, giving unselfishly in his labor and friendship. Together, he and Sonia took in adults and children alike to raise as if they were their own. Together, the two made a positive impact on those communities and individuals who shared in their warmth.
Arturo Feliciano Garcia lived a full life in his 96 years. He held many titles from timekeeper, to solider, to factory worker, to minister, to father and grandfather. He learned much about the world, raised many plants and animals, nicknamed many of his numerous friends, and collected many coins from around the globe. But more than anything Arturo was a man of love – love for his faith, his family and his country.
Arturo will be dearly missed by his family and friends, who rejoice in the knowledge that he is at peace with his creator, his parents, and many siblings. Arturo is survived by his wife, Sonia; his daughters Evelyn, Sonia Ivette and son-in-law Joe; his grandchildren Eleni, Ali, Sophia, Amanda and Joel; and his youngest brother, Rodolfo. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosa and Juan Maria; and his siblings Tito, Tomas, Sabina, Amadeo, Carlota, Marciano and Maximo.
A service and celebration of Arturo's life will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Greenwich Village Funeral Home on 199 Bleecker Street in Manhattan, to be followed by a private burial service at Calverton National Cemetery in Riverhead, New York.
