I come from a very large family who were parishioners of Holy Family Church in the Bronx for several generations and we still continue to have a very close relationship with the parish even though we no longer reside there. During the many years that Father Flanagan was the Pastor of Holy Family we were so blessed and fortunate to get to know him very well; and benefit from his great faith, love and guidance. Our family will never forget Father Flanagan and what he did for us and for all parishioners of Holy Family.

From his days as an editor of the Chimes, the literary magazine of Cathedral College, Jim was one of the more articulate and encouraging members of the Class of '71.

Fr. Flanagan celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial for my dad in July 2017. Fr. Flanagan did not know my dad yet spoke so lovingly in his homily that he touched the hearts of family and friends. Fr. Flanagan's homilies at daily Mass at Immaculate Conception Church were like mini theology classes. May he join the Communion of Saints and intercede for all of us!

Jim was a gentle giant, intellectually speaking, and a loyal friend who was always willing to be of service when he otherwise might have skipped the opportunity. He typified the humility which best characterized an ordained minister of the Gospel. Requiescat in pace.
